Composite “White” Fillings
New technological advancements in dentistry have allowed us to do natural tooth coloured fillings.
A composite resin filling also known as a white filling is mercury free and is made of a tooth coloured resin mixture filled with glass particles. It can be used for restoring decay and for cosmetic improvements.
Reasons for composite fillings:
- To replace toxic materials
- To repair chipped teeth.
- To close space between two teeth.
- To fix cracked or broken teeth.
- To restore decayed teeth.
- To strengthen worn teeth.
- For cosmetic enhancement
Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, we will remove decay as necessary. The cavity will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth’s shape and function.
